News from Mtwape News March
from the children themselves there is no great news, except for minor aches and pains are all healthy. However, the food supply situation is getting worse, the prices are in the last 3 months increased again by half - much of the harvest and the international relief supplies of corn were sold to the neighboring countries, especially Sudan. The money will ring in the wallets of government, the people starving because of the artificially created emergency!
For most families, it is simply not affordable to feed their children adequately.
feel the course the sponsored children and also the school. without these, the children could not be supplied with food -
It had to be adopted to introduce school fees. A lunch now costs more than twice as much as just a year ago!
The school fees are much lower than at other schools, but they are a (too) large burden for many families.
for our sponsored children we will pay the usual fees in April and Nancy will take care that they are at home with enough food and essentials. To the rest of the money food is purchased for the school.
In recent days we got some messages from Nancy, that the situation has deteriorated over the visit of their families and sometimes no food for the children present. As an immediate measure, we have authorized them to use for the affected children 10 € a month for food. Unfortunately
has begun the spring rainy season and there are no tourists for 2 months in the country.
also another school that we know have learned the Bush School of Conny Mannai in the north of Mombasa, which we have mentioned in the travel report and we also dear to the heart is affected and even there the children can no lunch to find. Many of the hits especially hard because the school (einfach!) 2 hours or more.
We hope to find new sponsors and two schools to help with their problems. For many children the school meal is the only meal of the day!
The pastor there is still very bad, he had an operation seems not to recover. The school administration is still carried out by Judith and all help together. Nevertheless, the problems are of course huge. We are in contact with an English girl who currently volunteer helps out a few weeks at school and she tells us in any email difficulties. In this way we also get more information on "European way", which differs substantially from the African.
Of the schools at Lake Victoria, we have heard nothing for several weeks, there is certainly the situation worse.
In women, the UN organization in Vienna, we have to show support for the construction of a small apartment building in the center Warega applied for - to support several projects each year with max. 7000 Euro. That would be enough to make a practical and comfortable home for the orphans created.
If we get grant money (which we experienced in September), my husband John will travel again in November after Keia and manage the building. Together we might be
fly to Kenya in July, because at my result from many, many hours of overtime by then a longer holiday.
Flights to Nairobi cost only half as much as those to Mombasa and now we have learned to travel in the cheapest way to Kenya - Adventure included.
As the situation currently appears to be the problems are even bigger and we want to make sure that the care of the children and everything goes looking for new ways to help.
It comes with a CD containing photos of our last Kenya trip, from the school and Lake Victoria, and photo (s) sponsored child. The CD can be played on the computer and the DVD player.
For more information, we are always happy to reach.
Thank you for your support! .. and maybe tell your friends about the situation in Kenya, there are so many children that desperately need a sponsor!
